Abstract

1,075,285. Electromagnetic forming BROWN BOVERI & CIE A.G. April 25, 1966 [April 29, 1965], No. 17944/66. Heading B3Q. An electromagnetic forming coil, e.g. for joining tubes, is formed in sections so that the or each turn can be divided and re-assembled round a workpiece. A coil having two turns (Figs. 1 and 2) is made in five sections (1, 2, 5, 6, 7) dove-tailed together (8, 9). The terminal part (1) is dove-tailed (8) to an opposite section (5) which is dove-tailed (9) to an S-shaped section (6). A further opposite section (7) is dove-tailed to the S-section (6) and the other terminal section (2). For four turns (Fig. 3) three S-sections (6) are required and four opposite sections (5, 7, 13, 14). The parts are made of high-tensile metal, e.g. steel, and may be held together by mechanical or hydraulic clamps. Low inductance resistors may be used to increase the resistance of the discharge track.
