Abstract
1,080,982. Apparatus for detecting breathing inadequacies. E. B. COHEN. June 25, 1965 [March 26, 1964], No. 12804/64. Heading A5K. An apparatus for detecting exhalation inadequacies comprises a device for mounting in juxtaposition to the exhalation orifice, which device is sensitive to a current of air and which transmits an electrical pulse at each exhalation, a delay pulsing unit which is energized at each pulse, a switch and an alarm, the switch closing to operate the alarm if the condenser in the delay pulsing unit is discharged, as will occur if breathing stops or becomes irregular or weak so that discharge takes place before the next electrical pulse. A sensitive device is illustrated with reference to Fig. 3 wherein foil strips 39, 40 are displaced by a current of air to make electrical contact with a metal plate 37. Alternatively, the sensitive device may be as illustrated with reference to Fig. 4, wherein a lamp 46a operates a light-sensitive cell 47 when the screen 48 yields due to an exhalation. Typical electric circuits are described in connection with Figs. 1, 2, 5 and 6 (not shown).
