Abstract
Cyclohexyltin compounds having the formula (C6H11)3SnX where X is chloride or bromide are prepared by reacting (C6H11)MgX with SnX4 in a molar ratio of 3+0.3:1. The cyclohexyl radical may contain inert substituents, e.g. hydrocarbon residues. The mixture at the commencement of the reaction may contain SnX4 in excess of (C6H11)MgX, and the (C6H11) MgX and the remainder of the SnX4 are added simultaneously in molar ratio of 3:1. The (C6H11)MgX is added as a solution of its ether complex in aliphatic ether or as its ether complex in cyclic ether containing 5 to 6 members in the ring, e.g. tetrahydrofuran, tetrahydropyran, dihydropyran and N-methylmorpholine. The reaction mixture is maintained at 25 DEG to 95 DEG C.
