Abstract

1,087,803. Lasers. PHILIPS ELECTRONICS & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 25, 1966 [July 28, 1965], No. 33353/66. Heading H1C. An infra-red gas laser comprises an active medium of carbon dioxide, nitrogen and water vapour. The mixture of gases is placed in a glass tube the ends of which are closed by two concave confocal mirrors forming a resonator. Pumping is by means of a continuous discharge by means of hollow platinum cathodes positioned in side tubes on the tube. Carbon monoxide and oxygen may be added to the active medium to catalyse the recombination of the decomposition products of carbon dioxide which might be formed.
