Abstract
1,091,184. Converting. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Feb. 18, 1965 [Feb. 21, 1964; April 10, 1964], No. 6987/65. Heading H2F. To assist deionization of a mercury arc valve after it has carried an excessive fault current the negative grid bias is increased, so as to increase the deionizing grid current. A transformer 9 (Fig. 1, not shown) in the main current path induces, when the main current is falling, a voltage to aid the grid bias voltage source 6. Alternatively (Figs. 2 and 4, not shown) the resistor 7, whose function is to demagnetize the pulse transformer 5 after a grid pulse and whose value is high enough not to shunt the grid pulses excessively, is shunted either by voltage-sensitive resistors or by a thyristor controlled by the secondary of transformer 9. The circuit has a time constant so that the effect continues after the main current falls to zero.
