1,091,339. Separation of monomers and oligomers from high polymers. VICKERSZIMMER PLANUNG UND BAU VON INDUSTRIEANLAGEN A.G. Dec. 20, 1965 [Dec. 23, 1964], No. 53829/65. Heading B1B. Vaporisable components of low molecular weight are separated from high polymer compounds by vacuum distillation in a vessel 2 which is under the action of two steam jet ejectors 8 which are maintained at such a temperature as to prevent condensation occuring within the ejectors, the vapours formed together with the steam from the ejectors being condensed as an aqueous solution of the low molecular weight components in a water-cooled condenser 12. The jet ejectors are maintained at a temperature of 200C to 280C by either a steam-charged heating jacket which also surrounds pipe 7 or by feeding in superheated steam, the vapours being compressed to about 25 Torr by the ejectors whereby a pressure of about 2 Torr is maintained in the vessel 2. The propulsion seam is adjusted so that 15 weight units of steam are consumed per weight unit of extracted vapours. The polymerisation product requiring separation and entering through line 1, e.g. polymerised caprolactam or a polycondensate of ethylene glycol-terephthalate, is distributed over the surface of the vessel 2 as a thin film.
