Abstract
1,102,203. Straightening. VOSS ENGINEERING CO. 13 May, 1965 [23 June, 1964], No. 20183/65. Heading B3E. A roller leveller includes four vertical corner posts, a top frame and a bottom frame supported by the posts, a top set of rolls and a bottom set of rolls supported by the top and bottom frames, respectively, means between the top frame and top set of rolls to effect vertical adjustment of the top set of rolls, the top frame being rectangular, and four separate jack means, each for lifting and lowering one corner of the top frame relative to a corner post to unclamp or clamp, respectively, the top frame relative to the four corner posts. An upper set of leveller rolls 22 is backed by backup rolls 24 on a support 38 backed by wedges 35, 54 on a rectangular frame 20 supported on four corner posts (80), Fig. 15 (not shown). A lower set of leveller rolls 23 is backed by rolls 24 on a support 37 backed by wedges 35, 34 on a rectangular frame 21. The frame 21 is formed with arcuate lower surfaces at its sides which are supported in arcuate surfaces of saddles (200), Fig. 18 (not shown). The saddles (200) are, further, supported on wedges (103). The top plate 20 is clamped on and lifted off the parts (80) at each corner by worm and screw means (75), Fig. 15 (not shown), each driven by a separate motor (73). Adjustment of the upper rolls 22 relative to the top plate 20 is effected by movement of wedges 35 by rotation of threaded shafts 243 or by movement of wedges 54 by a motor (45), Fig. 9 (not shown). The wedges 54 at the centre of the rolls are tapered more than those at the ends to bend the rolls into concave or convex shape, thus increasing pressure on the ends or centre of sheet being levelled. Adjustment of the lower rolls 23 relative to the bottom plate 21 is effected by movement of wedges 35 by rotation of threaded shafts 242 or by movement of wedges 34 by individual motors 31. The bottom frame 21 is tilted along the saddles (200) about a centre bottom leveller roll as centre by motor-driven eccentrics (67) (Fig. 13, not shown), thus bringing the upper and lower rolls closer at the outer entrance to the machine. Each saddle (200) is independently vertically adjustable by a motor-driven wedge (103), Fig. 18 (not shown). Stop means control various adjustments.
