Abstract
1,104,743. Laminates. W. E. RAWSON Ltd. 3 March. 1965 [3 March, 1964], No. 8865/64. Heading BBN. [Also in Division B6] A method for the continuous production of laminated materials comprises the steps of feeding a web of continuous fibrous textile material from a continuous supply source to web receiving means,. intermittently feeding the web from the storage means to severing means, severing the web into predetermined lengths and thereafter wholly or partly superimposing the severed webs and bonding by the application of adhesive in liquid or in powder form or by needling, stitching, stapling or felting. In Fig. 1, a carded of textile fibre passes continuously to intermittently run conveyer 4 where, it is stored during non operation of shaft 3, the web being fed to intermittently driven conveyer 5 and through intermittently driven nip rollers 6 and continuously driven nip rollers 7, the web being severed by stopping 6 and the severed ;length fed to the intermittently driven conveyer 8 which has begun to move to the right with its conveying surfaces stationary with respect to each other, when conveyer 8 reaches the end of its stroke, conveyer 9 is stopped and rotation of 8 is started to deposit the web on 9, conveyer then being moved to the left whilst conveyer .9 is rotated through a predetermined distance. In Fig. 2, conveyer 2 rotates continuously to receive web from 1, conveyer 3 reciprocates to store web from 2 during its right to left traverse whilst it is run at reduced speed in a direction opposed to arrow 3A and to release stored web during its left to right traverse during which it is rotated in the direction of arrow 3A; conveyer 4 is rotated whilst conveyer 5 traverses from left to right and is stationary for the reverse traverse; conveyer 5 traverses from left to right to receive webs from 4 severed by nip rollers 6 and 7 and traverses from right to left to run-off webs and deposit them on intermittently rotating conveyer 8. Outer layers of covering material may be applied to the stack of webs and other layers may be interposed between the fibrous webs.
