Abstract
1,104,834. Coating apparatus. COMMISSARIAT A L’ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. 10 Nov., 1966 [26 Nov., 1965], No. 50384/66. Heading B2L. Apparatus for deposition of sensitive emulsion on batches of sample-holder plates comprises a chamber 1 which is optical insulated from the exterior and in which thermal and hygrometric conditions can be regulated with precision and which comprises a stationary frame 49 fitted with roller tracks 48; a removable support panel 29 with a retractable cover for carrying a series of sample holder plates 31 and capable of being locked to frame 49; a motor driven carriage 32 adapted to perform a reciprocating movement along said roller tracks and carrying a sensitive-emulsion distribution unit formed by a vessel 33 having at its lower end a nozzle 34, and a roller 35 which is coupled to said carriage 32 by arm 36 and is adapted to bear on the plates 31; a system of link arms 37, 38, 43 to initiate the discharge of a regulated quantity of emulsion through nozzle 34 at the moment the nozzle passes above each sample holder plate; a device 57 at the end of the carriage travel for raising and locking the roller 35 and a motion reversing unit to initiate automatic returnof the carriage. The nozzle 34 is located a few centimetres in front of the roller 35 so that the emulsion which has been poured on to each sample-holder plate is permitted to spread prior to being subjected to the action of the roller. The carriage 32 is driven by a suitable motor and gear-box arrangement outside the chamber 1 by means of a cable 63 and the nozzle 34 is opened by means of tappet 43 engaging runner wheels 45. The latter are provided with flats 62 so that by 180‹ rotation they can be made to not operate tappet 43 so as to miss out any particular plate in the operation of the device and the quantity of emulsion discharged is adjustable by adjustment of rod 42. The chamber is heated by hot water circulating through coil 51, the temperature is controlled by suitable means and the desired humidity or hygrometric state is maintained by means of a humidifying tank (not shown). At the end of the outward travel of the carriage 32, i.e. after emulsion has been deposited on plates 31 tappet 43 engages ramp 60 and is raised thereby to an immobilised position and the bracket 57 engages a member 56 on the carriage 32 to raise the roller 35 and hold it in a raised position for the return movement of the carriage. An adjustable eye-glass 5 is fitted in the top of the chamber 1 for inspection purposes there being a viewing window 6 and a shutter 7 to seal off said window during operation of the device. The various parts of the apparatus may be mounted on a trolley with a suitable control and indicator panel to control the operation of the apparatus.
