Abstract

1,104,848. Semi-conductor amplifying; oscillating and switching circuits. COMPAGNIE INDUSTRIELLE DES TELECOMMUNICATIONS. 21 Sept., 1965 [26 Oct., 1964], No. 40268/65. Heading H3T. A Hall plate with two pairs of terminals 14, 15 and 16, 17, respectively, is located in the gap of electromagnet 11 having a control winding 12; one pair of terminals 14, 15 feeds an A.C. amplifier 18 the output of which comprises two transformers with their primary windings 19b, 20b connected in series and tuned by separate capacitors 19a, 20a, respectively, to different frequencies. The secondary windings 21, 22 of the transformers are so connected in series to the second pair of terminals 16, 17 of the Hall plate as to provide back-coupling, so that when there is a current in control winding 12 the circuit oscillates at the one frequency or the other in dependence upon the polarity of the magnetic field, i.e. the sense of the current in the control winding. The transformers also comprise tertiary windings 23, 24 the outputs of which are rectified by rectifier circuits 25, 26, respectively, which are poled oppositely and give a combined voltage output at terminals 31, 32 which has the same sense as the current in control winding 12 but is independent of its value for appreciable currents. This output may be fed back to a second winding on magnet 11 (Fig. 3, not shown) so as to oppose the effect of the current in control winding 12 and the arrangement may then operate as a linear amplifier. This arrangement may alternatively be made unstable, by increasing the gain in amplifier 18 or delaying the negative feedback current, so that the latter oscillates about a mean value.
