Abstract

The invention comprises diphenyl ether derivatives of the formula in which R denotes a divalent oxyalkylene radical of 2-4 carbon atoms, R1 denotes an alkyl radical of 1-4 carbon atoms or a phenyl group, m is 1 or 2, n is 1, 2 or 3 and p is 0, 1 or 2. The compounds are prepared by reacting a diphenyl ether, substituted by at least one halogenmethyl group in a p-position and optionally substituted with further halogenmethyl groups in other positions, with a glycol or polyglycol monoether in a proportion of at least 1 mol. of monoether for each halogenmethyl group in the diphenyl ether. An example describes the manufacture of a product of the formula Other specified products have the formulae The products are useful as column liquids in vapour-phase chromatography.
