Abstract

Novel compounds of the formula where R is a five-membered heterocyclic radical containing nitrogen and suphur and each of R1 and R2 is a hydrogen or a halogen atom or a C1- 5 alkyl, phenyl, halophenyl, thienyl, C1- 5 alkoxy, C1- 5 alkylthio, phenoxy, or phenylthio radical, provided that when both R1 and R2 are other than halogen, at least one of R1 and R2 is hydrogen, are obtained by treating compounds of the formula with sulphur at a temperature of 100 DEG -200 DEG C. The thio-anilides thus obtained may be treated with ammonia or an ammonium salt to form the corresponding amidines. The starting compounds for the above process may be obtained by treating a compound of the formula with a compound of the formula ClCH2-R, in which formulae R, R1 and R2 are as defined above.
