Abstract

1,105,540. Winding layouts for alternators. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 21 Feb., 1967 7 [23 Feb., 1966], No. 8236/67. Heading H2A. In an alternator having more than one wind – ing circuit in parallel, circulating current is prevented by transposing the conductors of the separate circuits between top and bottom phase-belt. Thus, as shown for a machine having four parallel paths per phase, in phasebelt 113, the sequence of the two parallel circuits 1, 2 is interchanged between the top phase-belt 107 and the bottom phase-belt 108, one being the mirror image of the other. This is achieved by varying the pitch of individual coils (Fig. 1a, not shown) by means of jumpers 109. The other circuits 3, 4 of phase-belt 114 are similarly interchanged. The coil sides on either side of a centre line of the top phase-belt are, in the layout shown, in complementary mirror image to each other, so that the vector sums of the voltages of the two top layer circuits differ only in phase displacement. This phase displacement is cancelled by the reverse sequence of the lower layer. Alternatively, (Fig. 4, not shown), the two halves of the phasebelts may be in simple mirror image relationship so that the vector sums differ only in magnitude, this difference being mutually opposite in the top and bottom belts respectively and thus cancelling each other.
