Abstract

1,107,266. A.C. motors. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. 2 Oct., 1964 [4 Oct., 1963], No. 39205/63. Heading H2A. A reluctance type of low – inertia dynamoelectric machine e.g. motor comprises a stator 1 having a polyphase or single phase A.C. winding arranged to provide a rotating or pulsating magnetic field, a hollow cylindrical rotor 2 having an electrical e.g. squirrel cage winding 3, 4 and anisotropically arranged magnetic segments 24, and a magnetic core 7 within the rotor 2 and spaced therefrom by an air-gap 9. The core 7 is either fixed as shown, or rotatable, relatively to the stator 1, and the rotor 2 may be either solid or laminated. In modification, the segments 24 have central slot-like non-magnetic regions, and the intermediate segments may have within them additional segments which may be channeled.
