Abstract
1,107,793. Crank-chambers; cylinders; valves. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. July 16, 1965, No.30238/65. Heading F1B. Each main bearing comprises half-shells 14 supported by upper and lower members 15, 16 which are secured together and to the crank-case 12 by bolts 17. In a modification, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the upper member 15 is integral with the crank-case and has arcuately recessed sides to facilitate insertion of the pistons in the cylinders. Each inlet or exhaust valve 9 is operated by a cam 10a through a rocker 11, the latter pivotting about the head 20a of a stud 20 against which it is held by a spring 21. A lubricant passage (not shown) in the cylinder head communicates by way of a longitudinal bore in the stud 20 with a peripheral groove, Fig. 2B (not shown), in the head 20a. When cam 10a is opening the valve, a passage in the rocker registers with this peripheral groove, thus lubricating the cam. The cylinder head 1a, block 1b and crank-case 12 are formed in one piece.
