Abstract
1,107,880. Bearings. SKF KUGELLAGERFABRIKEN G.m.b.H. 23 April, 1965 [23 April, 1964], No. 17309/65. Heading F2A. [Also in Division B3] In a method of making a spherical bearing’ an outer ring blank 1 with a longitudinal slot is positioned between the spherical surface of an inner ring 2 and a cylindrical surface of an assembly device 3 and axially compressed to conform with these surfaces. After removal from the device, the outer ring is expanded by deforming material adjacent the slot which material bridges the slot, or by driving a wedge into the slot and then replacing it by bridging pieces. The outer ring is formed of steel with a layer of sintered tin-bronze impregnated with P.T.F.E. and lead powder. Balls or rollers may be situated between the inner ring and the shaft.
