Abstract
1,111,890. Automatic record changer. WARWICK ELECTRONICS Inc. 8 Oct., 1965 [8 Oct., 1964], No. 42855/65. Heading G5R. In an automatic record changer for playing records of mixed sizes, a mechanism is provided which senses the size of the released record and controls the positioning of the stylus arm accordingly. The changer mechanism is driven by a drive pinion concentric with the turntable drive shaft which during record playing is adjacent a toothless portion of a control gear-wheel. When the stylus arm moves towards the centre spindle at the end of a record a link mechanism partially rotates the control gear to bring its toothed portion into engagement with the pinion. This commences the change operation which is completed before the control wheel is rotated one complete turn to its initial position. During initial rotation of the control gearwheel the stylus arm is raised and rotated to an ” out ” position and a record size sensing arm mounted on the pressure arm support is moved into line with the centre of the turntable. When the control gear has completed approximately half its rotation a conventional push off lever is actuated to release the next record, which depending on its size rotates the sensing mechanism by a predetermined amount. This movement sets the mechanism such that subsequently the stylus arm is lowered into the correct position for playing the record. Continued movement of the control’gear moves the stylus arm to the correct position, lowers it on to the record and moves the record size sensing mechanism to an out position. Means are also provided for sensing the end of the last record and switching off the record player.
