Abstract

1,112,127. Pulse radar. SIEMENS A.G. 13 Oct., 1965 [14 Oct., 1964 (2)], No. 43359/65. Heading H4D. The invention is concerned with the opening in correct sequence of a plurality of range channels to incoming radar echo-signals. In the embodiment shown, the echo signal line 3 is connected to a plurality of range channels 1 . . . n by modulation stages M1 . . . Mn. The modulation stages are enabled in sequence by pulses from a plurality of AND gates K1 . . . Kn. Alternate AND gates K1, K3, K5 etc. are supplied at one of their inputs with control pulses CA, Fig. 2, having a 1 :1 duty factor, whilst the other alternate gates K2, K4, K6 etc. are supplied with a 1 : 1 duty factor control pulse train CB but in antiphase with pulse train C A . The width of the pulses is equal to that of a range channel. A shift register FF is comprised of a plurality of flip-flops FF1, FF2 . . . FFn, alternate ones FF1, FF3, FF5 being triggered by shift pulses A, Fig. 2, and the other ones FF2, FF4 being triggered by shift pulses B, 180 degrees out of phase with pulses A. The arrangement is such that the output pulse from each flip-flop which is fed to the second input of the respective AND gate has a width two to three times that of the control pulses. Since the pulse output from the shift register shifts along the regster, the output of the AND gates will also shift along, and each range channel is enabled in sequence. In an alternative embodiment, Figs. 3, 4, 5, 6 (all not shown), the passage of the radar echo signal to the range channels is controlled by a relay switch Sn, Sn + 1 . . ., at the input to each channel. The relays are energized and the switches closed in correct sequence by the outputs of a plurality of shift register stages, one stage per relay. The output of a stage is also fed to the next stage, where it is lengthened to form a pulse analogous to the pulse output of one of the flip-flop stages of the first embodiment. Each stage comprises an AND gate, which is fed with the just described pulse, and a 1 : 1 duty factor control pulse, to provide the shifting output pulses for the relays.
