Abstract

Hydrazones of the formula where R represents hydrogen or an alkyl group and Z and Z1 represent the atoms required to complete a 5- or 6-membered ring which may be a fused ring system and may be substituted by, e.g., alkyl, aryl, carbalkoxy, sulpho, nitro, halo or thioalkyl groups are prepared by reacting the appropriate heterocyclic hydrazine with the appropriate heterocyclic aldehyde. Chelates of the hydrazones with, e.g., ZnSo4.-1.5H2O and (NH4)2CdCl4 can be obtained by heating the hydrazone with the inorganic salt. Hydrazones of the formulae S.4130 are prepared by reacting a hydrazine of the formula with 5-nitrofuryl-2-carboxaldehyde or 5-nitrothiophene-2-carboxaldehyde. The imino compound of the formula is prepared by heating 2-(o-aminophenyl)benzimidazole with salicyl aldehyde. Numerous hydrazones are specified.
