Abstract

1114332 Battery inter-cell connectors DUNLOP RUBBER AUSTRALIA Ltd 8 Aug 1966 [6 Aug 1965] 35385/66 Headings B3R R14 R2F R6 and R36 In a multi-cell battery of the type comprising a plurality of side by side alternate positive and negative plates and respective inter-cell connectors coupling plates of like polarity, at least one intercell connector has a face disposed so as to be directed towards a wall of a cell in which the assembly is located and adapted to define, with the cell wall and a poriton of the inter-cell connector projecting through an aperture therein and abutting the face, an annular recess about the aperture, whereby upon welding of the abutting inter-cell connectors together flash generated fills the recess to form a sealing ring around the aperture. In Fig. 2, abutting cell connectors 8, 9, generally L- shaped with the longer legs disposed across and welded to the top end of assembly plates, have faces 18, 19, directed to wall 26 of the cell, the connectors 8, 9 being provided respectively with an annular recess 17 to define a boss 20, and a tapered protuberance 21. When the plate assemblies are positioned in adjoining cells, the adjoining cells, the connectors align with aperture 25 in wall 26, the diameter of aperture 25 being such that the inner greater tapered portion 22 of protuberance 21 will not freely enter, but the remainder will pass through so that the outer end of protuberance will abut boss 20. The connectors are then welded together, by electrical resistance welding, pressure being applied until faces 18, 19 abut opposite sides of wall 26, with consequential displacement of molten or semi-molten material, as flash, into recess 17. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1000611.
