Abstract

1,128,438. Polyol composition/polyurethanes. ALLIED CHEMICAL CORP. 6 July, 1967 [7 July, 1966], No. 31270/67. Heading C3R. Polyurethanes are prepared by reacting an organic polyisocyanate with a composition comprising an organic polyol, an organomercuric salt catalyst, containing a direct bond between carbon and mercury atoms and as a promoter a copper, silver or cadmium compound, the catalyst and promoter being dissolved in the polyol and free from ionizable halogen. Conventional polyisocyanates and polyols may be used. The preferred organo-mercuric salts are phenyl or substituted phenyl mercuric salts of an aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acid such as phenyl mercuric propionate, p-chloro-phenyl mercuric acetate or phenyl mercuric p-chlorobenzoate. Cadmium and copper compounds such as the acetates, octoates, oleates or naphthenates are the preferred promoters. Fillers may be added to the reaction mixture, preferably to the polyol composition prior to reaction with the polyisocyanate.
