Abstract

1,135,877. Heaters for fluids. SELAS CORP. OF AMERICA. 29 March, 1967 [8 April, 1966], No. 14368/67. Heading F4A. In a fluid heater of the tubular type, e.g. for hydrocarbon pyrolysis, the vertical tubes 12 are supported by saddle-shaped supports 18, 19, on manifolds 15 situated inside the furnace 4 and the upper end of each tube is connected to a counterweight mechanism 26, 28, 31. The oil supply manifold 33 is connected by flexible inlet pipes 35 to the upper ends of the tubes 12 which are closed by plates 13 with yokes 14 which are connected to the counterweight mechanism. The tubes 12 are arranged in two rows in staggered formation, the tubes above one manifold 15 being connected by pipes 16 to the other manifold. Pipes 21 connect the manifolds 15 to a discharge pipe 22. The manifolds 15 are arranged in a removable trough 5. In Fig. 4, wherein the tubes 41 contain a catalyst, the lower ends of the tube project through the furnace wall and are closed by removable caps 42 for removal of the catalyst. The holes in sleeves 47 through which the tubes pass are slightly elongated to allow for expansion of the manifolds 15 and are closed by plates 48 carried by the tubes 41.
