Abstract

1,136,167. Blowing lances. NIPPON KOKAN K.K. 24 Feb., 1966 [24 Feb. 1965], No. 8231/66. Heading F4B. [Also in Division C7] An oxygen lance for refining metals has two discharge openings and is rotatable about its longitudinal axis. In a suitable form of construction (Fig. 5) oxygen is passed from supply pipe 12 to lance tube 15 by means of hermetic seal 16a; cooling water from pipe 18 enters jacket 13 through per. forations 19 located between packings 16b, 16c and leaves the outer jacket through pipe 20 in a similar manner. Disc 22 is mounted on outer jacket 14 and is provided with gear teeth 23 by means of which the lance is rotated. The oxygen outlets may be circular or segmental in cross-section and may be angled at between 3 and 6 degrees or at greater than 10 degrees to the axis of the lance.
