Abstract

1,137,711. Switches held set and freed mechanically. MILLS & ROCKLEYS (ELECTRONICS) Ltd. 10 Jan., 1966 [10 Oct., 1964], No. 41443/64. Heading H1N. An electric switch comprises a contact bridge 4 carried by a push-button 3 which is slidable over the surface of a printed circuit board 2 to cause co-operation of the bridge 4 with contacts printed on the board. The switch may be normally open, normally closed or change-over. The button 3 embraces one edge of the board 2 and is biased outwardly by a spring 7. A stop 3s on the button co-operates with a latch-retaining member 9 to prevent the button springing off the board. In a gang of push-button switches the member 9 is pivoted about an axis parallel to the board 2 and cooperates with a cam surface 3r on the button to hold it depressed until another switch button is depressed to release it. The button carries three bifurcated bridges which co-operate with one surface of the board. In an alternative arrangement each button has a bridge cooperating with opposite sides of the board. One of the switches of such an arrangement can only be unlatched by a special release button. This is achieved by providing on the member 9 opposite the release button 3 of this latch a spring member spaced from the latch 9 which normally retains the button, the space between the spring member and latch 9 being taken up on depression of a further switch button without releasing the initially depressed button. The release button has a high rise cam surface. The top of the button may be transparent and contain a neon indicating lamp wired to the bridging contacts.
