Abstract
1,147,415. Hydrogenating hydrocarbon oils. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 1 Aug., 1967 [19 Aug., 1966], No. 35329/67. Heading C5E. A process for hydrogenating steam-cracked naphtha comprises contacting the naphtha in a reactor with a sulphided nickel-tungsten catalyst supported on an inert carrier with a hydrogencontaining gas under critical hydrogenating conditions which include a reactor inlet temperature ranging from 200 to 300 F., a #T across the catalyst bed of from 50 to 200 F., a pressure of 300 to 1200 p.s.i.g., a space velocity of 0À5 to 2À0 V/hr./V, and a hydrogen to naphtha ratio of 500 to 2500 SCF/B, and recovering a stable motor gasoline component. The catalyst support may be alumina, kieselguhr or a clay. The feed may contain sulphur. Results are compared with those of a process using a cobalt molybdate catalyst,
