Abstract

1,147,478. Soldering. RAYCHEM CORP. 11 Oct., 1966 [12 Oct., 1965], No. 45340/66. Heading B3R. [Also in Divisions H2 and H5] A heating chamber 22 comprises an ellipsoidal reflector 10 with a heating lamp 23 at one focal point and a work holding mechanism 16 at the other focal point, the end portion 13 of the reflector 10 being mounted on an arm 14 pivotable at 26 to provide access to the mechanism 16, and the heating lamp 23 being in a circuit including a push-button-operable normally-open microswitch 66 and a triggeroperable normally-closed microswitch 65, operation of trigger 15 pivoting the arm 14 and operating the switch 65. Mechanism 16 holds cables 41, 42 for application of a solder sleeve 19 of elastic memory material by means of wires 47, 48 and 49, 50 and is releasable by continued movement of trigger 15 after opening of end portion 15 and operation of switch 65. The lamp circuit may include a timer for controlling the solder melting process. Cap 61 is removable for replacement of lamp 23. The heat recoverable solder sleeve 19, and the method of making electrical connections therewith, and examples of memory materials for the sleeve are described more fully in Specifications 990,235, 1,062,043 and 1,147,477 and in U.S.A. Specifications 2,027,962 and 3,086,242.
