Abstract

1,149,679. Optical fibres. AMP Inc. May 26, 1967 [June 15, 1966], No.24566/67. Heading G2J. An optical fibre bundle assembly comprises a pliable fibre optic bundle 1 crimped to a terminal device having a metal sleeve 3 and an axially extending seam 4 which seam is at least partially closed to compress the end part of the bundle. In its simplest form Figs. 1-3 (not shown) the sleeve has circular apertures 5, 6 (10) into which the pliable casing 2 of the bundle is extruded when the sleeve seam is closed. The cross-sectional area of the end part of the bundle is reduced by 5%. A strip of sleeves 3 may be provided, Fig. 4 (not shown). The sleeve as shown is also provided with apertures 16 in its side walls from which the metal is pushed out to define a pair of ears 17. Each ear has two dimples which can snap into notches 24 of a support 21, having a lens portion 22, which support can be mounted in a panel aperture, Fig.6 (not shown) by means of slots 25. Two blocks, Figs. 9, 10 (not shown) for mounting a plurality of optical fibre bundle assemblies are described, as is an alternative form of attaching a sleeve to a support, Fig. 11 (not shown).
