Abstract
1,152,632. Combustion chambers. RUBERY, OWEN & CO. Ltd. Dec.18, 1967 [Jan. 6, 1967], No. 915/67. Heading F1B. An I C. engine cylinder head has a combustion chamber 14 with the form of a segment 22 of a primary sphere of substantially the same radius as the cylinder bore and having a chord B at the open face of head and passing through the axis of the cylinder bore less than the bore diameter A, modified by recesses having the form of segments 23, 24 of smaller secondary spheres or frustums of cones adapted to accommodate valves. The inlet valve 15 and the corresponding secondary sphere have diameters greater than the exhaust valve 17 and corresponding sphere. The diameters may be equal. An opening for a sparking plug may be formed in the segment of the primary sphere on one or each side of the segments of the secondary spheres. The segment 22 of the primary sphere is formed by a cutter rotating about a centre C on the cylinder axis and the 23, 24 by cutters rotating about centres D and E respectively.
