Abstract

1,155,153. Dyeing cellulose/polyester fibre mixtures. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 3 March, 1967 [5 March, 1966], No. 10223/67. Heading D1B. Mixtures of cellulose and linear polyester fibres are pad-dyed or printed simultaneously with reactive and disperse dyes in a single operation by padding or printing with a liquor or paste containing the dyestuffs and a mixture of an alkali metal bicarbonate e.g. sodium or potassium and a free weak acid or compound having a weakly acid reaction and a dissociation constant of 1 x 10-7 to 1 to 10-11 as fixing agent the liquor or paste having an initial pH below 8.5 e.g. 6.5 to to 7.8, the quantities of the fixing agent components being such that on heating to above 100‹C to fix the dyeing or print, the pH rises to at least 9, e.g. 9.5 to 10. Weakly acid compounds used are phenols, nitrophenols, cresols, di- and trihydroxybenzenes, hydroxybenzene or naphthalene carboxylic or sulphonic acids, acetylacetone, acetoacetic acid anilides, and boric or silicic acids. 1000 grams of liquor or paste used preferably contains 5 to 30 grams alkali metal bicarbonate and 1 to 1.5 mols of weakly acid compound per mol of alkali metal bicarbonate. Fixation preferably takes place by steaming at above 100‹C or by dry-heating at 130‹ to 250‹C. The disperse dyes mentioned are azo or anthraquinone and the reactive dyes are azo, anthraquinone or phthalocyanine. The pad-liquor or print paste may contain the conventional carrier or thickening agents.
