Abstract

1,155,586. Pipe couplings. R. E. GROMELLE. 24 June, 1966 [8 July, 1965; 3 June, 1966], No. 28473/66. Heading F2G. A readily disconnectible pipe joint comprises a plug member 50 and a socket member 51, the pipe joint being secured by means of a discontinuous ring 31 the free ends of which are attached to the socket member and a rotatable operating ring 9 such that the ring 31 may be radially expanded and then contracted to seat in a groove in the plug member 50. A valve member 56 is opened by its engagement with a shoulder 59 of the socket member 51. Several types of valve members are disclosed (Figs. 7, 8, 9, not shown) two of these being resiliently loaded and all of which may be constructed from a plastics material. The plug member may be integral with a tap (Fig. 3, not shown) or connectable thereto (Fig. 1, not shown).
