Abstract
1,155,696. Photo-electric line followers. V¦ZKUMNY USTAV MATEMATICKYCH STROJU. Feb. 21, 1967 [Feb.22, 1966], No.8144/67. Heading G1A. [Also in Division G2] In a scanner for a line follower means are provided to form one image of the part of the line being followed on photo-electric sensing means and a second, enlarged, image on viewing means. The images may be formed simultaneously as in Fig. 9. Light from a lamp 18 is formed into an annular beam by a mask 30 and reflected by an annular mirror 24 through the lens 25 to illuminate the line to be followed. Light reflected from the line passes through a lens 3 and the aperture in the mirror 24 to a beam splitter 11 where one beam is deflected to fall upon an array of photo diodes 4 and the transmitted beam forms upon a viewing screen 7 an image which has been erected by a roof prism 5. The distance of the scanning head from the line can be adjusted manually by a rack and pinion mechanism 33, 35. In modifications, Figs. 2, 8 (not shown) further reflecting surfaces are used to achieve a different spacial arrangement of the light path sensing means 4 and the screen 7. Instead of the annular mirror 24 the line may be illuminated by a reflecting prism, Fig. 6 (not shown), semi-transparent mirror, Fig. 7 (not shown) or lamps carried in a hemispherical dome, which also carries the lens 3, Fig. 5 (not shown). The line may be illuminated from beneath by a fluorescent tube, Fig. 3 (not shown) or a row of incandescent lamps, Fig. 4 (not shown). The images may be formed selectively as in Fig. 11. A mirror 41 is normally biased by a spring 39 into a position where it directs the light from the line on to the sensing means 4. Actuation of the electromagnetic armature 38 moves the mirror 41 into the position shown dotted where it allows the light from the line to pass via the roof prism 5 to form an image of the line on the viewing screen 7.
