Abstract
1,160,750. Pipe joints; valves. COMMISSARIAT A L’ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. 25 Sept., 1967 [30 Sept., 1966], No. 43534/67. Headings F2G and F2V. A valved pipe joint for two ducts 1, 2 traversed by a dangerous, e.g. radioactive, fluid comprises a valve casing 4, a rod 8 which is axially movable, e.g. by a hand wheel 14 and threaded portion 11 co-operating with a threaded bore in casing cap 12, to position a valve member 9 in relation to a seat 10, a metal bellows 18 surrounding the rod 8 and sealed to both the easing and the valve member, and two blocks 22, 23, the former of which locates a plane face of the valve casing against a yoke 3 which is common to the ducts 1, 2, to align these ducts with passageways 5, 6 in the valve casing, whilst the latter block is acted on by a screw 26 to urge the faces of the casing and yoke towards each other, sealing of the butt joint thus formed being effected by 0-rings 27. To guard against the bellows being perforated, packing 13 is provided between rod 8 and the casing, and a tube 19 communicates the space below the packing with a drip tray 20. Handwheel 14 and the head of the screw 26 are accessible from the exterior of a concrete enclosure 16 having a removable cover 17 to which the valve casing and rod 8 are assembled prior to being lowered into the interior 15 of the enclosure to position them with the ducts 1, 2 in register with the passageways 5, 6, after which the screw 26 is rotated to seal the joint.
