Abstract
1,160,937. Gramophones. D. BELLINI and M. BELLINI. 28 Sept., 1967 [29 Sept., 1966], No. 44192/67. Heading G5R. A record 5 inserted (Fig. 1) through a slot 50 on to a turntable 4 tilts a control member 25 to close the motor switch 44 and cause a pin 23 carried by a multi-armed lever 12 to ride along one branch 24a of a bi-arcuate slot 24 to a position, Fig. 3, from which a toggle spring 31 urges it along the second branch 24b, further rotating lever 12 (Figs. 4 and 5) so that arm 35 lowers the pick-up 36 on to the record 5 and arm 14 inserts a rotatable conical centring plug 16 into the central hole in the record, teeth 17 on the plug 16 then meshing with lobes 19 of a cam 18 at the centre of the turntable 4. At the end of playback, a tooth 42 on pick-up arm 35 engages a projection 21 on plug 16, which is thereby prevented from rotating and rides up on cam 18 to the position shown in Fig. 3, fron which the toggle spring 31 completes the restora tion to the initial position and the ejection o the record 5. A spring 38 returns the pick-up 36 to its rest position. In a modified construction (Figs. 6 to 12), the tooth (170) which stops the rotation of the plug (116) is connected to the pick-up arm (135) through a linkage including a friction clutch, and its engagement with the projection (121) on the plug depends upon the increased radial speed of the pick-up when i enters the run-out groove. In this construction the pick-up is returned to its rest position by the action of an arm (173) forming part of the control member (125), and the multi-armed lever (112) has an extension (122a) providing fo manual interruption of playback. The pick-up is counter-balanced and spring-urged towards the record so that playback may be effected in any orientation of the apparatus.
