Abstract
1,175,255. Dashpots. NUCLEAR POWER GROUP Ltd. 17 Oct., 1968 [18 Oct., 1967], No. 47398/67. Heading F2S. A dashpot comprises a cylinder 1, Fig. 1, having openings 1a 1b at each end and being divided intermediate its ends into compartments A, B by a wall 2 having an orifice 3, passing therethrough. Each compartment A or B receives a piston 4 or 5 and sealing bellows 8 or 9 therein. The pistons 4, 5 are interconnected by means of piston-rods 4a, 5a and a member 6 which comprises two tie rods connected to flanges 6a, 6b. The member 6 is attached, via a rod 7, to a device which is to be damped. In use a force applied to the rod 7, for example in a downwards direction, causes compression of fluid in the compartment A and a reduction of fluid pressure in the compartment B. When the differential pressures in A and B balance the applied force, further downward movement of the pistons is governed by the rate of flow of fluid passing from compartment A to compartment B, via the orifice 3. Sealing dampers 8, 9, 11 and 12 are provided. In a modification pistons 4, 4, Fig. 2, are connected by a rod 10 which passes through a wall 2 having an orifice 3 therein.
