Abstract

1,176,746. Drying hydrous material. CELLECO AB. 27 Feb., 1968 [2 March, 1967], No. 9285/68. Headings F4G and F4U. [Also in Division A2] A method of drying and subsequently heat treating hydrous solid material (e.g. sludge, animal foods, medicaments and fertilizers) by heat supplied by one stream of hot gas, comprises treating the solid material in a bed of other solid particles fluidized by the hot gas stream for a time not substantially greater than that required to solely dry the material and subsequently heating the material in a chamber indirectly heated by the hot gas stream. In Fig. 1 the material is treated in fluidized bed 2 and then conveyed by the hot gas stream to cyclone separator 6, the separated material being led to chamber 9 indirectly heated by the gas exhausted from the separator 6. In other embodiments (not shown) the material may fall under gravity through a chamber (9) which may be indirectly heated by the hot gas stream on its way to the fluidized bed (2) or which may be surrounded by the fluidized bed (2).
