Abstract
1,177,055. Glass and plastics laminates. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 5 March, 1968 [6 March, 1967], No. 10736/68. Heading B5N. A laminated safety or bulletproof glass includes a layer of amorphous polyamide having a viscosity factor (measured in accordance with DIN 53727 in a 0À5% m-cresol solution at 25 C. using a Ubbelehde viscosimeter) of 90 to 160 and being the reaction product of either (i) at least terephthalic acid or an ester thereof and hexamethylenediamine or a trimethyhexamethylenediamine or (ii) adipic acid, p,pdiaminodicyclohexylmethane, caprolactam and a hexamethylenediamine or a trimethylhexamethylenediamine. Laminated glasses may comprise a plurality of polyamide layers or may comprise polyamide and silicate layers bonded together. Bonding of layers may be achieved by pressing at 130-135 C. and using intermediate foils of plasticized polyvinyl butyral having a low moisture content, e.g. 0À3-0À9 wt. per cent; a list of suitable plasticizers is given. The butyral foil may be reinforced with filaments or a woven fabric of polyamide, glass or metal. Specified diamines used to prepare polyamides are 2,2,4- and 2,4,4-trimethyhexamethylenediamine and mixtures thereof. Monomer mixtures used to produce polyamides of type (i) may include isophthalic acid or an ester thereof. The amorphous polyamides may be formed into plates for lamination in a plate press which has been preheated to 210 C. and which can be water-cooled.
