Abstract
1,183,107. Copying telegraphy. A. BELTRAMI. 7 Aug., 1967 [6 Aug., 1966], No. 36136/67. Heading H4F. A method for transmitting a two tone image, e.g. Fig. 2a comprising tone transition points Fig. 2i separating monotonic areas over the normal telephone network, comprises scanning said image with a television type raster to produce video signals, Fig. 2b, generating a pulse, Fig. 2p, marking the end of each line scan, transmitting, Fig. 2m a single detached sinusoidal oscillation, for each of said tone transition points and for each of said generated pulses, the latter oscillations being distinguishable from the former (e.g. in antiphase) and video signals corresponding to said monotonic areas not being transmitted, wherein the exact reproduction of the image at the receiver is made possible by the scanning and reproduction of the image being carried out by means of cathoderay tubes having identical rasters with a two speed line scan, Fig. 2h, comprising low and high speed portions and with frame scans obtained by integration of the end line pulses, the low speed of the line scan being used to scan the tone transition points, and the high speed being used to scan said monotonic areas. By transmitting the tone transition points only and using a high speed scan in between said points, the time needed to scan and reproduce an image is reduced to near that required to scan its transition points only. In the two way system of Fig. 7 each subscriber is provided with a telephone, a flying spot scanner and photoelectric pick-up assembly 1
