Abstract

1,183,229. Fire alarms; lamp failure alarms. PYROTECTOR Inc. 6 Nov., 1967 [7 Nov., 1966], No. 50418/67. Headings G4F and G4N. In an alarm system, a relay R1 is normally energized by half cycles of an A.C. supply, a capacitor F1 supplying current during the missing half cycles; means are provided responsive to failure of a component in the system to inhibit the current from the capacitor F1 so that the relay emits an audible signal. As shown in Fig. 3, relay R1 is normally energized by A.C. supply E, half-wave rectified at D2, the current during the missing half cycles being supplied by capacitor F1. Light from a lamp 14 in a labyrinth (Fig. 1, not shown) is reflected by smoke on to a CdS cell C1, reducing its resistance and allowing a neon tube B1 to strike, illuminating a photo-resistive cell C2 which connects an opposing rectifier D1 to the relay R1; capacitor F1 by-passes the non-rectified full-wave current across the relay R1 so that it becomes de-energized, initiating an alarm A. Supply voltage compensation.-The standing voltage across the photo-resistive cell C1. is is stabilized by neon tubes B2, B3. Neon tubes B4, B5 are connected to the lower end of the neon tube B1 so as to compensate for the change insensitivity of the circuit due to variation in brightness of the main lamp 14 in the event of supply voltage fluctuation. Lamp failure alarm.-Failure of the main lamp 14 results in photo-resistive cell C3 becoming high resistance so that capacitor F1 becomes ineffective, hence relay R1 will chatter due to the unsmoothed half-wave rectified supply.
