Abstract
1,199,686. Pipe joints. B. C. R. WILDRIDGE. 31 March, 1969 [2 April, 1968], No. 15720/68. Heading F2G. [Also in Division E2] The ends 1 and 2 of tubes for use in the erection of road signs are connected in abutting end relationship by an internal clamp comprising two opposed elongated members 12 and 13, each received in the ends of the tubes and urged laterally apart to grip the tube ends by a screwthreaded pin 15 screwed in a boss 5 of member 12 and engageable with a depression in a projection 18 formed on the member 13. A co-operating opening is provided in the tube 1 to permit access to the keyed head of the screw. As shown, each member is of C-shaped cross-section. The elongated members may be initially located in one tube by a rod passing through registering holes in the members and one of the tubes. Alternatively, one of the elongated members may be secured to one of the tubes as by welding, riveting, or bolting, or by an adhesive. The outer surfaces of the clamp may be provided with a frictional surface covering of plastics material. The tubes and clamp may be of metal or plastics.
