1,205,687. Phenylalkylaminoalkanols and esters thereof. DAINIPPON PHARMACEUTICAL CO. Ltd. 10 Oct., 1968 [13 Oct., 1967(2)], No. 48040/68. Heading C2C. Novel compounds of formula and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof in which formula R is a hydrogen atom or a phenyl group, R1 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R11 is an acyl group or a hydrogen atom, the group A is an ethylene group or a methylmethylene group provided that A is not a methylmethylene group when R is a hydrogen atom, and n is a positive integer of 3 or 2, are prepared by (i) condensing a compound of the general formula with a compound of formula Z-(CH 2 ) n -OR11, A1 is a methylenecarbonyl, an ethylene or a methylmethylene group, R, R11 and n are as hereinbefore defined, and Y and Z are different and are a halogen atom or a group wherein R1 is as hereinbefore defined, (ii) reducing the product of (i) when A1 is a methylenecarbonyl group, (iii) reacting the product, of the last procedure carried out, with an acylating agent when R11 is a hydrogen atom and if desired, (iv) reacting the product of the last procedure carried out, with an alkylating agent when R1 is a hydrogen atom and if desired. 3,3-Diphenylpropyl chloride is prepared by action of thionyl chloride on 3,3-dipropan-l-ol. 2 – (3,3 – Diphenylpropionylamino)- ethanol is prepared by reaction of 2-aminoethanol with 3,3-diphenylpropionyl chloride prepared in situ by action of thionyl chloride on the acid. Pharmaceutical compositions in conventional forms for oral or parenteral administration comprise an above novel compound wherein R11 is an acyl group or salt and a carrier therefor and the novel compound or composition is used in treatment of cardiovascular disease.
