Abstract
1,213,714. Press. H. ISHIZUKA. 14 March 1968 [23 March, 1967], No. 12524/68. Heading B5A. [Also in Division B1] A press for producing high pressures, for the production of e.g., diamond from a graphite/ cobalt mixture, consists of co-operating die and punch means mounted in a frame made from laminated steel plates. Such a frame will absorb any forces due to the mis-alignment of the die and punch without distorting or breaking. In the described embodiment, the press comprises upper and lower punch assemblies 10 and 11 and a die assembly 12 removably located between the upper cross-piece of a laminated frame 1 and a cylinder 2 carried by the lower cross-piece of the frame. The disposition of the die is maintained by adjustable cylinder and piston devices 6 and 7 carried by the frame. Alternatively ball-screw jacks may be used to maintain the disposition of the die.
