Abstract

1,220,702. Epoxy resins. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 6 June, 1968 [19 June, 1967; 18 Oct., 1967], No. 27010/68. Heading C3B. [Also in Divisions C2 and H1] A process for the manufacture of electrical insulators comprises curing with phthalic anhydride a cycloaliphatic polyglycidyl ester of formula in which A is an at least divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon radical which may be interrupted by oxygen atoms or cycloaliphatic rings or a cycloaliphatic radical; R is hydrogen or C 1-3 alkyl and n is 2 to 6. The composition is shaped and cured by heating. The polyepoxide may be one of those disclosed in Specification 1,058,075. It is preferably heated to 80-150‹ C. before adding phthalic anhydride. Cure may take place at 80-180‹ C. In examples the castings are fitted with embedded brass armatures. The casting compositions may contain fillers, e.g. quartz, dolomite, titanium dioxide or glass fibres.
