Abstract

1,222,127. Cartridges. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 3 May, 1968 [5 May, 1967], No. 21196/68. Heading F3A. A cartridge comprises a housing 24, 34, 12 at least partly surrounded by a cartridge case 8; arranged sequentially in an axial bore in the housing a primer 18 for igniting, for example, an acoustic charge 31, and a biased firing pin 1, one of the firing pin or the primer being fixed and the other being displaceable; and locking means 2 in a radial bore in the housing for spacing the firing pin and primer apart, the locking means 2 being controlled by a second locking means 35 which is actuated in response to external pressure on a piston 10 which, prior to firing is out of communication with the surrounding medium. A third locking means comprising further means 2 is controlled by a rearwardly biased safety member 3 locked by means 7. A fourth locking means (not shown) extends transversely in a blind hole between the firing pin and primer and is movable in response to predetermined external pressure to align a bore therein with the primer and firing pin. Upon firing the cartridge, the case 8 is stripped off the housing, whereupon a plug 15 closing a passage leading to the thrust face of the piston is ejected. Meanwhile, the means 7 falls away and the safety member 8 is moved rearwardly to release the third locking means. When the external pressure reaches a predetermined valve the second locking means 35 is actuated by the piston 10. In a modification, either the fixed primer or the fixed firing pin is mounted in the bore of the fourth locking means.
