Abstract

1,226,850. Coating pipes; mixing apparatus; containers; spray nozzles. G. DIMURA. 28 May, 1968, No. 25360/68. Headings B1C; B2F and B2L. [Also in Divisions B8 and F2] A long section of gas pipe line 17 is sprayed internally with leak-sealing compound by making openings in the piping at positions 16-1, 16-2 at the respective ends of the section, inserting a light and flexible line 101, such as “ inch diameter steel wire, through the opening at position 16-1 and advancing the line automatically from reel means 100 at position 16.1 for attachment through the opening at position 16.2 to hose and nozzle means 12, 13 and automatically re-winding line 101 on reel 100 while forcing sealing compound through hose 12 for spraying through a plurality of orifices in nozzle 13 to contact the interior of the piping simultaneously at a plurality of selected angles while the hose and nozzle are being drawn through the interior of the piping, first saddle means 14 being detachably secured to the piping at position 16.1 for preventing leakage of gas from the opening thereat while permitting the line to pass therethrough, and second saddle means 15 being detachably secured at position 16.2 for preventing leakage of gas at the opening thereat while permitting the hose and nozzle to pass therethrough, the second saddle means being provided with means for observing arrival of the line thereat. The nozzle 12 is provided with a ring 51 for attachment to line 101, and comprises a chamber 54 formed with three circumferential rings 53a, 53b, 53c of orifices of about 0.04 inch diameter, the orifices in the middle ring 53b being perpendicular to the axis of the nozzle and the orifices of the rings 53a and 53c being inclined at 20 degrees respectively on either side of a line perpendicular to said axis. The reel 100 comprises an inner vertical ring 62a peripherally connected to an outer ring 62b of greater diameter, and arcuate rods 63-1, 63-2, 63-3, 63-4 are secured both outwardly equidistantly to the periphery of ring 62a, and also inwardly at a common point 64 on the axis of said rings, said rods serving to. guide line 101, drawn by a rodding machine 10, on to the peripheral inter-connections between rings 62a, 62b for automatic coiling thereon. A vehicle 11 carries a tank for sealing compound, a pump being provided on vehicle 11 for filling the tank from a source of supply and also for delivering compound from the tank to hose 12. The tank is heated internally, and is divided into two compartments by a vertical perforated partition (804), Fig. 8B (not shown), each compartment containing a vertical shaft (805-1), (805-2) carrying constantly rotated paddles driven from a power source through pulleys (803-1), (803-2). Saddle 15 comprises a base to which can be detachably fitted either a transparent cover containing a lamp for detection of the leading end of line 101, or a cover provided with a gasket for gas-tight passage therethrough of hose 12.
