Abstract
1,228,813. Tow truck conveyer; track apparatus. S.I. HANDLING SYSTEMS Inc. 9 April, 1968 [17 April, 1967], No. 17083/68. Headings B7L and B7N. In a tow truck system in which a truck is moved and guided by a pin projecting into a slot in the surface on which the vehicle runs, a truck is diverted from a main slot into a diverging slot when a pair of active treadles in advance of the diverging point, which by their position define the point, are actuated by a pair of similarly positioned address pins on the vehicle. The switch mechanism at the point includes a number of upstanding walls defining the meeting slots which isolate an interior chamber and prevent the entry into the chamber of debris from the slots. The chamber houses the switch actuating mechanism which depends from a cover for the chamber. The treadles are mounted in two groups of 3 in cup-shaped housings 92 on either side of the main slot in advance of the diverging point. The three treadles 120 &c. of each housing are mounted with their guards 110 &c., on a shaft 116 which is secured to a pair of members 100 &c. secured to a spring loaded shaft 96. The shaft allows the treadle group to be depressed accidentally by, e.g. a vehicle wheel. Each treadle is formed with a loop portion 124 which allows it to be placed in an active (full line) or inactive (broken line) position and one treadle in each group is placed in the active position to define the diverging point. When engaged by an address pin on the vehicle the treadle rotates and draws a member 134 and the cable 74 to the right. When a treadle in each group is actuated cables 76 and 74 are drawn to the right initially rotating members 60, 58 anticlockwise and clockwise respectively until their respective teeth 66 68 lock, thereafter movement of the cables rotate arm 52 about pin 51 and this movement is conveyed to a stop supporting member 54 by a blocking member 56 which is urged into engagement with the support member 54 by spring 142. Rotation of the stop support member moves stop 50 away from arm 48 and this rotates under the action of spring 49 and moves the switch member 30 to the diverting position. Cam 31 on the switch member when engaged by the tow truck pin rotates the switch plate back to its initial position. A member is disposed along the diverging slot and when engaged by a pin of a leading truck when the diverging slot track is full draws cable 144 downwardly thereby swinging blocking member 56 out of engagement with the stop support member 54 so that rotation of arm 52 is not transmitted to the stop support member and further tow trucks are prevented from entering the diverging slot track.
