Abstract
1,231,156. False-twist yarns; apparatus. J. P. STEVENS & CO. Inc. 9 June, 1969 [20 June, 1968], No. 29058/69. Headings DID and D1F. A process for crimping yam comprises pulling said yarn 31 downstream from a supply source 30 in a path leading to a take-up device 45, and at a point intermediate the source 30 and device 45, passing the yam while under tension around a plurality of rotatable mandrels 37, 39, 41 so that movement of the yam along the path causes the mandrels to rotate, the axes of the mandrels being at the same angle in relation to the path of the yarn as it approaches the respective mandrels, the angle being set between 10 and 80, the passage of the yam around the mandrels causing a twist back-up which is set by the application of heat at 35. The yam may be a thermoplastic material e.g. polyhexamethylene adipamide, and a tension of 0.001 to 6 grams per denier is applied to the yarn at a point upstream from the heater 35. The angles between the axes of the mandrels and the path of the yarn approaching the respective mandrels is . preferably 45.
