Abstract
1,231,690. Flexible shaft couplings. REX CHAINBELT Inc. 4 Sept., 1969 [6 Sept., 1968], No. 43826/69. Heading F2U. Two substantially coaxial shafts 15 are connected by a coupling 10 comprising a hub 12 secured to each shaft (e.g. by a split hollow cone 14) and carrying a ring 22 made up of two semicircular parts 22a, 22b each having a flange 25 extending axially towards the other shaft, and a pair of semicircular segments 11a, 11b of arcuate cross-section 30 with axially extending flared edge portions 31 bonded to both sides of and wrapped around the ends 29 of the flanges 25 which may have radial holes 33. The hubs 12 may be reversible as shown or of L-section, Fig. 4 (not shown), to bridge a larger gap between the two shafts. The segments 11a, 11b may be of neoprene or polyurethane.
