Abstract
1,242,949. Ester-containing phosphorus polyols and polyurethane foams therefrom. MARLES – KUHLMANN – WYANDOTTE S.A. 9 May, 1969 [13 May, 1968], No. 23808/69. Headings C3C and C3R. Ester-containing polyols suitable for use in the preparation of polyurethanes are prepared by reacting (i) a polyhydroxyl-containing phosphorus compound with (ii) a halogen-containing organic polycarboxylic acid anhydride and reacting the product with an alkylene oxide. The phosphorus compound is a phosphate polyol, phosphite polyol, phosphonate polyol, phosphinate polyol, phosphoramidate or a polyhydroxyl – containing phosphine oxide. Many reactants are specified, those used in the examples being: I-propylene oxide, tetrachlorophthalic anhydride and a phosphate polyol prepared by reacting propylene oxide with 100% phosphoric acid; II-IV tetrabromophthalic anhydride, chlorendic anhydride, tetrabromophthalic anhydride and a mixture of tetrachlorophthalic anhydride and tetrabromophthalic anhydride respectively, the other reactants being as in Example I; V and VI tetrachlorophthalic anhydride or chlorendic anhydride with propylene oxide and a phosphate polyol prepared by the reaction of propylene oxide with 115% phosphoric acid; Example VIII follows the procedure of Example I using various phosphorus-polyols. Polyurethane foams are made by reacting the above polyols with a polyisocyanate and a blowing agent by the ” one-shot ” or the prepolymer process. The polyols may be used in admixture with other polyfunctional monomeric or polymeric compounds in which the functional groups are hydroxy, amino or mercapto groups. The usual chain extending agents, catalysts and surfactants may be used. In the examples (VIII) foams were prepared by the ” one-shot ” process using the polyols of Examples I-IV ; polymothylene polyphenylisocyanate, a polyalkylene ether polyol, silicone surfactant, tetramethylene ethylene diamine and trifluoro chloromethane.
