Abstract
1,242,996. Molten glass-resistant material. CORNING GLASS WORKS. 18 Feb., 1970 [24 Feb., 1969], No. 7693/70. Heading C1M. [Also in Division C7] A refractory substrate, e.g. for use in the manufacture of glass, is coated with Pt or Pt base alloy by plasma spraying. The Pt alloy may contain Rh, Ni, Au, Ir or Pd. The substrate may contain mullite, alumina, zirconia, zircon, magnesia spinel, titania, cassiterite, barium oxide, silica, magnesia, thoria, and chromic oxide. Typical glasses used for testing the coating are (% by weight): (1) 61.4 SiO 2 , 16À8 Al 2 O 3 , 12.7 Na 2 O, 3.6 K 2 O, 3.7 MgO, 0.2 CaO, 0.8 TiO 2 and 0.8 As 2 O 3 , and (2) 79À8 SiO 2 , 12.2 B 2 O 3 , 2À8 Al 2 O 3 , 4.0 Na 2 O, 0À4 K 2 O and 0À8 CaO. The substrate may be an orifice ring.
