Abstract
1,243,612. Regulating I.C. engines. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Jan.13, 1970 [Feb.12, 1969], No.1501/70. Heading F1B. [Also in Divisions G1 and H3] In an electrically controlled fuel injection system for I.C. engines, the quantity of fuel injected is determined by the position of an air valve 30 situated in the air intake passage 14 upstream of the throttle valve 24, the pressure between the air and throttle valves and the intake pressure downstream of the throttle valve. The air valve 30 is connected to the wiper 128 of a potentiometer 130, the passage between the air and throttle valves to a vacuum motor 108 having its diaphragm 110 connected to the wiper 118 of a potentiometer 120, and the passage downstream of the throttle valve 24 to a vacuum motor 72 having its diaphragm connected to the wiper 82 of a potentiometer 84. The wiper 118 is connected to the resistance 86 of potentiometer 84, and the wipers 82 and 128 are connected to a control circuit 142, Fig. 4, which is triggered at a rate determined by engine speed such that the duration of pulses at 156 determine the quantity of fuel injected by injectors 158. A choke blade 34, whose position is automatically controlled by engine temperature, connects potentiometer 130 to ground, via resistor 137, which may be temperature dependent, in its closed position, and directly to ground in its open positions.
